IV INTERNATIONAL OLIVE BONSAI TREE COMPETITION IN PALMA DE MAJORCA 2006

The organisers announce that the competition will be held at Porto Pi Shopping Centre on 10 th , 11 th and 12 th November 2005, and will feature world-renowned bonsai masters Nobutaka Sakuma (aka Nobutaka Kaneko) and Hotsumi Terakawa, from Japan, Hirotoshi Saitoh from Japón and Ángel Mota, from Spain, who will take part in workshops and demonstrations.


* Thursday 10/11/2005:
7 pm: Opening cocktail party for the media, featuring regional dancing.  

* Friday 11/11/2005: Morning: workshops by great masters Sakuma (aka Nobutaka Kaneko) and Hirotoshi Saitoh. 

* Friday 11/11/2005: Afternoon: demonstrations by masters Hotsumi Terakawa and Ángel Mota.

* Saturday 12/11/2005: 10 am: demonstration by top Japanese master Sakuma (aka Nobutaka Kaneko) and Hirotoshi Saitoh

* Saturday 12/11/2005: 10 pm: gala dinner, during which the masters will award the prizes to the best trees.

* Workshops and demonstrations will take place at the Porto Pi terrace; the exhibition will be held inside the centre.

* Other cultural activities will also be carried out during the course of this event.

CV FOR MASTER MR NOBUTAKA SAKUMA

  • Born 6th May 1950 in Chiba , Japan .
  • He is currently 54 years old.
  • When he was 13 he decided to become a professional Bonsai Master.
  • In 1970 after finishing secondary school, he began to study in the Kokuboichiraku garden in Tokyo .
  • In 1970 he joined the Japanese Bonsai Association.
  • He worked for this association in the Imperial Bonsai Garden .
  • He also worked as a professional in many other Bonsai gardens.
  • In 1983 he worked for the Japanese Bonsai Association as a Bonsai demonstrator, to raise awareness among the people of Japan .
  • In 1985 he obtained the world qualification of official Bonsai instructor from the Japanese Bonsai Association .
  • He studied for 15 years in the "Issei-En" Noboru Kaneko garden in Omiya , Japan , where he is currently the director.
  • He has just begun to export Bonsai to Europe


There will also be stalls selling indigenous trees and bonsai-growing material from different brands.

The organisers wish to invite all bonsai lovers to attend the demonstrations given by the great masters and to visit the exhibitions and the different activities that will take place during the event.

In addition, the organisers announce that master Masaiko Kimura has signed up to take part in a demonstration and a workshop in 2007 and Shinji Suzuki in 2006.

The organisers reserve the right to make any changes that may be required.
